Poetry Slam

In Room's 7 and 8 we LOVE poetry!!

Congratulation to the children who were selected to read their poems to the class form last week. Here is a photo of the winners with their certificates.

For the next few weeks Poetry Slam will be different. The children have been given a booklet of poems. They need to pick one of these to learn for the upcoming poetry competition - later this term. We ask that they select their poem before Friday and then are ready to share their poem with their group on Tuesday at our next poetry slam session.

Room 7 Using Google Docs

Over the past week Room 7 have been learning how to access the awesome power of Google Docs. Everyone is so excited. Today was a real break through as many of the children were able to figure out how to use e-mail and were sending e-mails to each other and Mr Powell. Lots of the children are also creating their own Google Slides in their Google Drives.

Poetry Slam - Week 2

This term Rooms 7 and 8 have started a poetry session called 'poetry slam'. Each week the children are given a poem to learn, which they present to their small group at our poetry slam session. The children in the group vote whose poem was the best and then these children present theirs to the syndicate. This is great practice for the poetry competition that is coming up later in the term.

These children were voted the best from our very first poetry slam session and earned the first certificates. Well done to everyone and we can't wait for the next poetry slam this Tuesday!!

GoNoodle

In Room 7 this week we have been looking at the website called: GoNoodle (https://www.gonoodle.com). It is a cool website that our class has joined. In Gonoodle there are lots and lots of cool interactive activities that you can do. So far we have done the Secret Handshakes with 'Koo Koo Kangaraoo' and also some Zumba with Zumba Kids.

Kids ask mum and dad if you are able to join up at home and try out some of the activities.

Cleaning up the insect garden

A few years ago the Middle Syndicate created an insect garden in the orchard. We asked a landscape designer to create a garden for us that would have plants that were beneficial to insects. The garden when built was fabulous. However as the years passed the garden was forgotten and became over grown and wild! 
So with the help of some amazing parents and grandparents, Room 7 spent a morning cleaning, weeding, fixing and hunting for mini-beasts. It was a beautiful day and the garden now looks great. The plan is to plant some new plants that insects love - this will hopefully happen around spring. If you are able to help us with the planting of new plants please let Mr Powell know.
